Privacy policy
Last updated: October 28, 2026.
At How Full Is The Lake (howfullisthelake.com) we process as little data as possible. There are no user accounts, no advertising and no tracking, we count visits without cookies, and we do not sell or share data with anyone.
Controller and contact
The controller is the owner of the website howfullisthelake.com. For any privacy question, write to [email protected].
What data we process and why
1. Technical server logs
Like any website, our server and Cloudflare may record technical data about each visit (IP address, date and time, page requested and browser) to keep the site secure and working. Our logs are kept for a maximum of 30 days and are not used to identify you or to build profiles.
- Legal basis: legitimate interest in the security and operation of the service (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)).
2. Preferences saved in your browser
Your light or dark theme and the last sort order and filter of the lake cards are saved only in your browser (local storage). They never reach our server. Details in the cookie policy.
3. Contact email
If you write to [email protected], we use your email address and message only to reply. The message may reach our inbox through Cloudflare's email forwarding, and we delete it when it is no longer needed to handle your request.
- Legal basis: your request when you write to us.
4. Visit statistics
To know how many people visit the site and which pages they use most, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. When a page loads, your browser sends Cloudflare a notice with the page visited, the site you came from, your browser and device type, your country and performance data (how long the page took to load). It uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, does not build a profile of you or follow you across sites, and we only see aggregate figures (for example, "300 visits to the Lake Travis page"). Your IP address reaches Cloudflare as with any visit, but it is not used for these statistics.
- Legal basis: legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used in order to improve it, without tracking you (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)).
Providers that process data on our behalf
To run the site we rely on these providers (data processors), bound by a contract under article 28 of the GDPR. They may only use the data to provide their service to us:
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany): hosting of the server and its technical logs. The data stays in the European Union.
- Cloudflare, Inc.: DNS, content delivery and protection against attacks, which every visit goes through (and with it your IP address), forwarding of the contact email and cookie-free visit statistics (Cloudflare Web Analytics). It may process data outside the European Economic Area under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
Third-party services
Besides Cloudflare's statistics script (see above), the only external service your browser connects to is OpenStreetMap, for the background tiles of the map on the Texas page. Its servers receive your IP address and browser details when the map loads and do not set cookies through this site. The OpenStreetMap Foundation is based in the United Kingdom, which the EU recognizes as offering adequate data protection; see its privacy policy. All other files, including the map library, are served from this site.
Where the data on the site comes from
Reservoir levels come from the Texas Water Development Board and satellite images from NASA, published as open data. They contain no personal data.
Your rights
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability by writing to [email protected]. Since we do not ask for any identifying data, we can usually only locate information linked to an email you sent us.
If you believe we have not handled your request properly, you can file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) or with the data protection authority of your country.
Changes
If we change how we process data, for example when adding new features, we will update this page and its date.
